Redesigning with Pegboards

Along with my love for arts and crafts, I have a ridiculous passion for organizing. I create a form for many task, have charts, binders, and folders for many of my daily events, and don't get me started on the amount of stacked, color coded, and labeled bins in my basement right now. LOL.

After moving into our new home last year I reduced my work space from a craft room, to a craft closet, and became increasingly frustrated with my area. I needed better organization, needed more basic supplies at my finger tips, wanted to be able to work more effectively. So to help find a solution I took to... you guessed it PINTEREST! Within seconds I found exactly what I needed.

A Peg Board Organizer!!

Of course now that I knew what I wanted, I had to figure out how to make it, so I sought the help of my favorite, and the most amazing crafter in the entire world Martha Stewart, she of course had a great video, I mean why wouldn't she.

In order to create my pegboard organizer, I started my journey at Michael's so that I can find a frame suitable for my needs. I went in search of one that had little metal prongs attached to the actual frame, versus the cardboard insert. $20.00 later I had my 3'x4' white wooden frame. I then ventured Home Depot where the staff there was so awesome, and helped me find a pegboard, and even cut it to the size of my frame for me. After playing in the pegboard "hook" aisle for -according to the boredom of my children and husband- way too long, I had what I needed, for a total of $7.58.

Once I got home I pulled out some left over bright pink chalkboard paint that I had from another project, and went to town. *Word of advice: Pegboards have holes, so place something UNDER it in order to avoid polka dotting your work surface. ;)*

Just as in Martha's Video, I painted two coats of paint on the board. Let it dry and placed it in it's frame. I then hung the framed organizer, just as I would hang a picture on the wall, in my work space.
Keep in mind when hanging your pegboard, that the frame and board will be heavy, and depending on what you will be using your organizer for, you will want to buy the appropriate anchors and hooks. I purchased a set of 50lb picture hangers from Target ($2.50), to ensure that my board and tools would be properly supported. During this project I discovered that my phone had a level in it so I could tell if the board was straight or not. Thank you Apple! What will you think of next! ;)

As a little bonus, I decided to paint the leftover piece of pegboard (the staff at Home Depot gave me the scarp piece after they cut my board to size), for an extra organizer. I originally wanted to frame this piece, but couldn't find a frame to match the larger board. So I ended up using 'Pegboard' hardware to hang it on the wall. This hardware allows it to hang on the wall with enough space for the hooks to inserts and move about.

And Tada! For less than $40.00 I created an organization system above my desk! The thing I love the most is that I can write on it with chalk! Hehehe! I'm such a kid at heart!

Thanks for reading! If you happen to create your own organizer, make sure you share it with us! We'd love to see it.
